

Dourios Ippos
Frikes is located in the northeastern part of the island, at a distance of 19 km from Vathi, 5 km from Kioni and 3 km from Stavros. According to the researchers, the Homeric port of Reithros is located there.
It is a very beautiful and quiet picturesque fishing village, a favorite tourist destination for many visitors every year. During the summer months, it is connected daily by ferry to Lefkada. It is an ideal starting point for boating escapes to the wonderful nearby beaches, but also for unique sea routes on the northern coast of the island.
The two well-preserved windmills, located on both sides of the port, give another note of romance to the village, especially on summer nights when they are lit.
In the village you will enjoy tasty food, especially fresh fish and seafood by the sea, as well as coffee or drinks. On the 30th of June, the local festival takes place at Agioi Apostoloi, which gathers a lot of people from all over Ithaca as well as many visitors.
From Frikes begins the dirt road to the Marmaka beach, an area of special natural beauty where one can enjoy a swim and visit the unique wetland of Ithaca, Alykes. The route from Frikes to the neighboring village, Kioni, is truly enchanting, as it passes between the intense green of the mountain that harmoniously embraces the bright blue of the sea and the white of the pebbles.

Just 5 km from Frikes you will also find one of the most picturesque villages of Ithaca, Kioni. It is a preserved, traditional village built amphitheatrically on the green slopes of the bay
Its small but very picturesque port is flooded with yachts from May to October.
Visitors can enjoy their coffee in the cafes of the village and taste the wonderful food at its restaurants next to the sea, while in the evening you will have the opportunity to gaze at the three illuminated windmills, which are located at the entrance of the port.
It is also worth walking on the road to "Argaleio" and the area of Lonza. There will meet the ruins of the house of the hero of '21, Karaiskaki and the pebble beaches with the clear waters of Katsikouli, Sarakinari, Plakoutses and Filiatro, where will enjoy swimming.

The central village in northern Ithaca, 3 km from Frikes, is the commercial center of the area. There you will have the opportunity to taste the traditional cuisine and local sweets, under the shade of the pine and eucalyptus trees of the village.
In the village square the Byzantine church of the Savior and the beautiful park with the bust of Odysseus and the representation of the Odyssey Palace.
In the same place, on the 5th and 6th of August, on the feast of the "Savior", the biggest festival of the island takes place, where everyone, locals and visitors, have fun until the morning. In Pilikata hill there is the Archaeological Museum, and the area is a declared as archeological site, where according to W. Heurtley, the Odyssey Palace where placed.
On the western slope of Niritos, is this small village known for its unique view of the Kefalonia canal and the enchanting sunset on the Fiskardo side.
The whole area impresses the visitor with the images of incomparable natural beauty.

The small village of Anogi is built on the eastern side of Nirito mountain.
A special attraction of the area are the huge monoliths, which bear streaks from the ice age. The visitor of Anogi can also visit the old village (Paxinata), take a tour of historical ruins and picturesque chapels. In the center of the village stands its church with the special Venetian bell tower.
Vathi is the capital of the island. A beautiful settlement, with strong Venetian influence. Its beautiful natural harbor, which is identified with the Homeric port of Forkynos, with the picturesque island of Lazareto in the center adorns the entrance to the port.
Sights such as the Navy Monument, the statue of Odysseus and the bust of Homer attract the interest of visitors. Here you will find many shops and tourist shops, cafes and restaurants.

The only village in southern Ithaca, the mountainous, populous Perachori, is amphitheatrically built on the northeast side of Nyon mountain. The village offers the visitor unique sunsets and view especially from the highest point of the place that sees Lefkada up to Zakynthos.
Here you can get local pure products such as wine, oil, honey, etc. Perachori wine is offered free of charge, every last Saturday of July at the "Wine Festival".




Leaving Lefki on the road to Vathi, a path will lead you to the small settlement of Agios Ioannis and the excellent beach of Aspros Gialos. At the end of the village there is a very old olive tree with about 18 meters of perimeter, which the locals call "Odysseus' olive tree".

Beaches...

Gidaki
One of the most beautiful beaches in the Ionian Sea. Its impressive blue-green waters, white pebbles and pristine wildlife impress every visitor. You will arrive by boat starting from Vathi or on foot following the path that starts from Skinos.

Marmakas
Following the dirt road from Frikes to the left, you will reach the beach of Marmaka. The natural beauty, the white pebbles and the blue-green waters and the big eucalyptus trees that reach the edge of the sea make the place idyllic. The special natural landscape is completed by the small island of Agios Nikolaos, which is very close to the shore and can be reached by swimming.

Kourvoulia
Moving on the road from Frikes to Kioni, there are three small, crystal clear and crystal clear pebble beaches. They are easily accessible by road.

Afales
From the village of Platreithia, we take the road to Afales. Crossing the wonderful route with tropical vegetation, one reaches the beach of the bay of Afalos. With thick, white pebbles and rocky shores, which hide two more deserted beaches, Kouloumi and Perivoli, for those looking for absolute tranquility.

Filiatro (Kioni)
The small beach of Filiatro is located near the entrance of the bay in Kioni and consists mainly of pebbles. It has a canteen during the summer months. The trees reach the sea creating natural shade.

Limenia
To the left of the bay of Frikes, is the beautiful beach of Limenia with the trees embracing the coast. Next to it is the small beach of Pera Limenia. Access is by Frikes, by dirt road and trail or by boat.
Other wonderful beaches of the island are Skinos, Oxopetra, Loutsa, Aspros Gialos, Minimata, Dexa and many other small beaches that look like small private pools with their crystal clear, transparent waters ... It is worth visiting them all!
